It’s 1:55 here in Accra, Ghana & I’m about to drown my ears in an ocean of new music. Truthfully, nothing quite invigorates my senses than delving into some new music. My headphones are on now & I just hit play. Let’s go!
Wow! The intro is beautiful. A nice swirl of sound. Afro-fusion tune?
The bass guitar didn’t come to play and it’s effortlessly flirting with the drums. Simple and effective. The polyrhythms are crazy and I’m here for them. Sweet—the instrumentation seems to have been recorded live, because you can clearly hear hands beat the drum membranes, creating a very organic sonic blend. The piano just dropped—melodic, soft, and infectious. I’m loving how rich the the instrumentation progression is. I like the tempo a lot. I’m head bobbing now. The beat rides. I need an autograph from the beat-maestro, T.U.C. He’s a genius. Savannah is singing now. Her energy is everything. Who’s Diego? That guy is in big trouble. Although this song is about a thorny love affair, the lyrics are a bit playful.  “I’m your only Nutella” — This line in the lyrics got me smiling.
Is that Victoria Kimani? I love her voice. It’s soothing. There’s this tropical melodic vibe oozing now. Honestly, I’m currently thinking of sunshine, turquoise waters and coconut trees because “Diego” is a lush & legit, made-for-summer tune.
R. City is having a great time. The vocal delivery and energy are infectious. The sweet-sounding chorus & lush instrumentation cements this track in your head for days— very irresistible. The trumpets and manic drum lines create a potent melodic flow.
For some reason, I’m bouncing all over my room uncontrollably. Listen: anyone who doesn’t immediately start dancing when this banger comes up is a robot— and there’s no cure for that.
