SONG REVIEW: Black Kalonji — SUNSHINE (Produced by Bryan The Mensah)

Ghanaian rapper Black Kalonji releases “SUNSHINE” — a song that makes me feel yellow within. “SUNSHINE” is produced by wunderkind rapper-producer Bryan The Mensah. SUNSHINE is a single off Black Kalonji’s upcoming debut album.

Indistinct voices of an unknown crowd opens the track, juxtaposed with mellow-melodic keys. The beat drops, and it’s a nice hiphop knock. Nice build-up, rich with manic drums and other animated sounds. Nice beat, has a nice bounce. The melodic keys plays in the background, creating jumpy melodic-vibe. The beat is knocking like the police, causing the tea in my mug to ripple — I’m head bobbing now! (with swag)

The Verse is melodic. A motivational song? “Well done to my day ones....you can see the light here even when the night comes” — he sounds sincere enough, and I like it. I couldn’t hear some words of the lyrics clearly, but the vibe is effective. I respect Black Kalonji for giving credit to his Mama on this project. The chorus is simple and addictive. This song’s central message is “Hope”.
