Y’akoto’s new single “I AGREE” is off her soon-to-be-released project “Obaayaa”. And I can’t wait for it’s release.
“I AGREE” opens with Ya’koto scat-singing with a gauzy haze vocal. I love what she’s doing with her voice. The repetition of the scatting ain’t bad at all. Lord!, that wavy, soulful bass line is one legit ingredient for a mid-tempo earworm. The drums are sure but subtle now, and it merges effortlessly with the bass line. Clearly, The beat is a jazzy tinged soulful piece. It’s very clear the beat’s creator has a diverse sonic inspiration palette.
Y’akoto just entered with a mild, but pleasant vocal tone. She wastes no time diving into positive pools, crooning atop the soulful production:  “Don’t break your neck all by yourself” she advices us with this powerful opening line from the first verse. “This life is short but long / This money won’t keep you warm / And that’s what my mama said / I agree” This bar still add an advisory vibe to the lyrics. The progressions of the beat is very dynamic & it’s guided by the woozy leading bass line permeating the track. In addition, the highly effective combination of drums and  guitar riffage add a tasty aura to the song. “I love the chorus, It flows like a river and it carries you along. Y’akoto’s vocal buildup is impressive and soothing.  “Long term, if you wanna swim deep / Short term, don’t they know the real thing”, is the best bar the song wields. Y’akoto fuses love commentary with deep introspection, resulting in a richly formulated Neo-soul piece. Although “I AGREE” shimmers as a love song, it’s also undoubtedly a motivational track if you listen to the lyrics intently.
In conclusion, the well-crafted production complements her voice effortlessly. With lurid sweetness, “I AGREE” is instantly appealing and memorable in an unassuming way. I think the lyrics give the song some much-needed depth. To her credit, Y’akoto convincingly sells lyrics with her emotive vocal delivery. Honestly, her voice is a veritable superpower—breathtaking & powerful. Y’akoto’s voice is the song’s saving grace.
I’m not new Y’akoto’s impressive oeuvre, so I know what she’s capable of vocally. I fell in love with her music after she released “Tamba Ep”, in 2011. Baby blues (2012), Moody Blues (2014) and Mermaid Blues (2017).
Be sure to keep checking out Y’akoto’s Instagram to see what she releases next! And don’t forget to come back here for even more awesome new music.
