EP Review: Pheeno and Narah’s “The way you smile” — Music for Romantic evenings and sunny ice-cream afternoons!

Truthfully, this EP is extremely easy to listen to — and  nothing quite invigorates my senses than delving into some new music.  This EP’s mood creates an amazing soundtrack for romantic evenings and sunny ice-cream days. It’s eight pm here- ghana time - and I’m alone in my room listening to music. I compensate my loneliness by indulging in kiwi-flavored popsicles!  Too much 411, let’s delve deeper into this EP already. “ The Way You Smile” is a collaboration between the honey-eyed vocalist, Narah and super talented  beat-loving polymath, Pheeno (Joseph Keenan). It’s a three-song EP, and every piece in there is beautiful and carefully crafted. This EP blends electronic music, RnB grooves, soulful vibes and Jazzy-undertones into a fresh and exciting musical flavor. The soundscape of this EP is impossible to dislike.

Pheeno is really a talented young man. He really knows how to flirt with beats. He fuses his Understanding of conventional instrumentation into contemporary electronic music structure. I respect Pheeno for taking risks with his sound. His experimental mindset is an asset — in the end his sound blossoms into something unique. You can also check out  his 2018 album—“ How’s it been? — I enjoy how he blends his sound with some video game music elements, very daring! His musical prowess and ear for melody is impressive and he reminds me Tom Misch.

Narah’s vocals steals the show. There’s something undeniably unique about the tone of Narah’s voice — very honeyed and effortless. Her vocals adds a cozy vibe to the EP. You can also check out her 2018 single “Lost” — it’s an awesome piano-tinged ballad with emotive lyrics. Her voice also glides perfectly well on this song too.

“These Words” is the opener on the EP and it has a sentimental electronic RnB/soul instrumentation and lyrics that feels potent and poignant. “ when you say these words...you don’t know how they hurt” Narah sings, ushering us into a world of a problematic relationship with her lover. Narah’s voice flows  effortlessly—soft and sweet. . “Mhmm” is the second song on the EP. And I think it’s my favorite song on the EP. I love how simple the lyrics to this track is. I couldn’t help but move along to this euphoric and  danceable number. This Electro-soul/RnB song is drenched in awesome guitar licks and smooth bass lines. The title of the EP is snatched from a line in this song. Smart. “Tide” is the last song on the EP. I love this song too —  I love the lyrics to this so much. Narah’s voice glides beautifully and it’s laced with an enchanting, soulful vibe.

The combination of Narah’s vocals and Pheeno‘s uber-clean electronic instrumentation adds a layer of depth to the EP’s listening experience. The songs are interesting enough to relax even a restless soul. This EP sounds innovative, soothing and impressive. I also love how simplistic and clean the lyrics are.The soundscape on this EP feels fresh, even as you listen to them dozens of time over. Narah and Pheeno have so much talent to stay bottled up for long. I’ve got to get out of here, my popsicle’s melting. Later. And don’t forget to add this EP to your playlist.
