EP REVIEW: Gafacci’s Tash BNM — soundscape for euphoric sunsets and libation-worthy Nights!
Gafacci is a Ghanaian DJ/producer creating fresh and stylish music that is full of depth.
Been listening to the EP for days now, but I keep coming back again and again. This EP is like a scrapbook of Gafacci musical influences. The soundscape on this Project goes beyond the dance floor, offering tantalizing sounds suited lounging on the sofa, sunset-gazing after a long day or a lonely drive on a desolate road. The party-turning abilities of the EP can not be overlooked. “ Afro Lofi” is the opening track on the EP. Gafacci features Chefbanku and Nii Quaye.
The beat is so infectious — it’s going to make you move with all that impressive Afro-galloping drum lines and sweet staccato piano tones. The lyrics of the song are in Ga. “Like Water” features honeyed singer Amaarae. The ear-worm melody and the laid back control of Amaarae’s vocals creates slow jam worthy for the dance floor! Her nonchalant vocals stick in my head like glitter glue, and makes me sing along — “ she wants a lover”. There are lovely tones and drum lines in there that are great. “Lavapies to Labadi” is a collaborative project with highlife musician, Kyekyeku. This song is my favorite piece on the EP. “Lavapies to Labadi”, I think is the EP’s breathing heart and I’m hooked to its beats. On this instrumental track, Gafacci and Kyekyeku seamlessly blend club tunes, violin atmospherics with highlife-inspired guitar chords, genuinely creating a transportive atmosphere. I personally named this track — “Electro-highlife blues”. Melody takes the lead here.I love how contrary elements interact respectfully on this jam. This song is suitable for wanderers. “Same Vibes” features Tinuke and Lazee is plagued with danceable beat and vain lyrics.
Honestly, the mind cleansing vibe of some of the tracks is undeniable. This is a really great EP. Even-though this EP contains enough coziness in its sweet melodies, yet it’s dance floor-worthy.
Gafacci manages to find the perfect balance of soothing atmospherics, sway-inducing beats, and easy going melodies that you’ll find yourself coming back to again and again.
